Kern's hat trick boosts Penn State University over Northeastern University, 6-1

The Northeastern University Huskies could not stop the Penn State University Nitty Lions' Darby Kern, who tallied a hat trick in a 6-1 win.

Kern notched his first tally 8:39 into the first period. He then added goals at 18:27 into the second and at 1:00 into the third.

Penn State University's Mary Kate Tonetti was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 31 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of Tonetti will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 1.7.

The Nitty Lions managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Penn State University finished below its season average of 4.0 penalty minutes per game. The Nitty Lions' offense rang up 52 shots on Northeastern University's net.

Penn State University additionally got points from Cara Mendelson, who also had one goal and two assists. Penn State University also had goals scored by Jacqueline Saideh and Devon Fisk, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Penn State University were Taylor Nyman and Cassandra Dunne, who contributed one each.

Penn State University was unable to stop the Huskies from sending pucks towards the net, and Northeastern University eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

The Huskies were led by Michelle Macchione, who scored the team's only goal. Macchione scored 17:39 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Penn State University. Kelsey Hickey picked up the assist.

The Nitty Lions registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Northeastern University's Kimberly Pfeifle stopped 46 shots out of the 52 that he faced. The Huskies incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
