Gray's hat trick boosts Whitby over Norwood, 8-2

Matt Gray lifted the Whitby Dunlops to an 8-2 victory with a hat trick against the Norwood Vipers.

Gray's first goal came 3:42 into the first period. He then added goals at 9:27 into the first and at 15:12 into the second.

Whitby led 4-0 after the opening frame the first period and maintained a healthy margin after.

The Dunlops excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Norwood was unable to stop Whitby from sending pucks towards the net, and the Dunlops eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.

Whitby additionally got points from Adam Van Dam, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Whitby also got a goal from Brett McConnachie as well. Other players who recorded assists for Whitby were Patrick Jobb, who had three, Chris Eade, Greg Leyden, and Shane Terry, who each chipped in one, and Steve Natywary, Steve Birch, and Jared Docking, who contributed two each.

The Vipers stifled Whitby's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Jason Guy made 26 saves for the Dunlops on 28 shots. Whitby totaled 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 0-for-4 on the power play. Team's Gray and Kyle Musselman were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. David DiGironimo recorded 32 saves for Norwood. The Vipers ended with 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors. For Norwood, Justin McConnell and Shane Winner were ejected from the contest.
