Whitby rolls over Norwood, 8-1

The Whitby Dunlops were firing on all cylinders against the Norwood Vipers, and when the final buzzer sounded Dunlops emerged with an 8-1 win.

Norwood was stymied by Whitby's netminder Anthony Kimlin, who stopped 44 shots during the victory.

The Dunlops got the win with help from a great game by Adam Van Dam, who had one goal and three assists. Van Dam scored 19:24 into the first period to make the score 3-0 Whitby. Chris Purves provided the assist.

Whitby excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Dunlops' offense rang up 64 shots on the Vipers' net. Whitby got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Whitby additionally got points from Chris Gour, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Brett McConnachie, who also racked up two goals and one assist, and Matt Salituro, who also had one goal and one assist. Whitby also got a goal from Kyle Ventura as well. Other players who recorded assists for Whitby were Martin Kearns and Matthew Baxter, who each chipped in one and Patrick Jobb, Matt Gray, and Connor Shingler, who contributed two each.

Norwood put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Dunlops to score on any of their four power plays. The Vipers forced Whitby goalie Kimlin to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots.

The Dunlops incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. David DiGironimo recorded 56 saves for Norwood. The Vipers incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
