Reynolds leads Stoney Creek over Whitby, 7-5

Behind a great game by Matthew Reynolds, who had four goals and one assist, the Stoney Creek Generals defeated the Whitby Dunlops, 7-5.

Reynolds' first goal came 3:49 into the first period. He then added goals at 4:56 into the first, at 8:11 into the second, and at 19:28 into the third.

Stoney Creek forced Whitby goalie Jason Guy to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots. The Generals bested their season scoring average. This season, Stoney Creek averages 4.9 goals per contest.

Stoney Creek additionally got points from Matt Smith, who also tallied two goals and three assists. Stoney Creek also got a goal from Marc Madarasz as well. Other players who recorded assists for Stoney Creek were Jeff Leaist, who had three, Nikola Bibic, Dominic Crnogorac, and Dennis Maxwell, who each chipped in one, and Dylan Gilbert and Tony Iaquinto, who contributed two each.

The Dunlops' offense rang up 36 shots on the Generals' net.

Whitby was led by Brett McConnachie, who had two goals. McConnachie scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 13:30 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Stoney Creek. The Dunlops earned a power play opportunity when Roger Sherwood was put in the box for holding. Jared Docking picked up the assist. McConnachie's next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Whitby with 4:21 left in the first period. Patrick Jobb provided the assist. Whitby also got points from Peter MacKellar, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Whitby included Kyle Ventura and Connor Shingler, who each put in one. In addition, Whitby received assists from Chris Eade, Matt Gray, Matt Salituro, Matthew Baxter, and Shane Terry, who each chipped in one.

Daniel Svedin made 31 saves for Stoney Creek on 36 shots. The Generals incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Guy recorded 38 saves for Whitby. The Dunlops incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Whitby ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Eade was ejected from the game.
