MacKellar's goals lift Whitby to 6-4 victory over Norwood

The Whitby Dunlops relied on the scoring touch of Peter MacKellar, who netted four goals, to beat the Norwood Vipers, 6-4.

MacKellar got on the scoresheet 3:21 into the first period. He then added goals at 4:28 into the first, at 49 seconds into the third, and at 18:06 into the third.

Whitby put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Norwood to score on any of its three power plays. The Dunlops forced the Vipers goalie Paul Bourbeau Jr. to work between the pipes, taking 71 shots.

Whitby additionally got points from Patrick Jobb, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Whitby also got a goal from Kyle Ventura as well. In addition, Whitby received assists from Mike Pawlak, Matthew Baxter, and Shane Terry, who each chipped in one.

Norwood forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and two majors for 36 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 30.0 minutes per game the Vipers had been spending in the box. Norwood stifled Whitby's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Vipers' offense rang up 41 shots on the Dunlops' net.

Norwood was led by Darren Doherty, who finished with one goal and two assists. Doherty scored 3:59 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Chris Johnston picked up the assist. Norwood also got points from pendergasttyler, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Norwood included Shannon McNievan and Mike Banks, who scored one goal each. More assists for Norwood came via Ryan Toms, who had one.

Jason Guy rejected 37 shots on goal for Whitby. The Dunlops totaled 45 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-8 on the power play. Paul Bourbeau Jr. made 65 saves for the Vipers on 71 shots.
