Adrian College uses early goal to top Davenport University, 3-1Arrington Ice Arena (Adrian) Thu, Feb 05, 2015 Summer Frey scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Adrian College Bulldog held off the challenges of the Davenport University Panthers in a tough 3-1 win. A goal 9:21 into the first period by Frey proved to be the game winner, and powered Adrian College to the victory. Jenna Jubinville provided the assist.The Bulldog's penalty kill excelled, as Adrian College gave up zero goals despite allowing eight power plays. The Bulldog were led by Jessica Rushing, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Rushing scored 11:11 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Adrian College. Rebecca Napoli picked up the assist. Adrian College stifled Davenport University's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Panthers were unable to stop the Bulldog from sending pucks towards the net, and Adrian College eventually piled up 38 shots on goal. The Bulldog were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 30 penalty minutes. Adrian College also got a goal from Nichole Laflamme as well. Davenport University's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Adrian College power plays. The Panthers were held below their usual level of production. Davenport University puts an average of 3.5 pucks into the net per game. The Panthers were led by Catie OConnor, who scored the team's only goal. OConnor scored 4:44 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Adrian College. Courtney Curlee provided the assist. Adrian College's Alison Dungey stopped 23 shots out of the 24 that he faced. For the Bulldog, Napoli was ejected from the game. Nina Van Orshaegen made 35 saves for Davenport University on 38 shots. The Panthers incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
