NEPEAN outlasts OTTAWA, 5-3

NEPEAN gutted out a close 5-3 win against OTTAWA.

NEPEAN gained the winning advantage on a goal by Leanne Baker 15:00 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Sam Cogan(A) had two goals and one assist to lead NEPEAN. Cogan(A) scored the first of her two goals at 54 seconds into the third period to make the score 2-2. Carolyn Williams picked up the assist. Cogan(A)'s next tally made the score 5-3 NEPEAN with 20 seconds left in the third period. Baker assisted on the tally.

NEPEAN forced OTTAWA goalie Tanya Winchcombe to work between the pipes, taking 50 shots.

NEPEAN additionally got points from Baker, who also had one goal and one assist and Williams, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. NEPEAN also got a goal from Alyssa Baker(A) as well. Other players who recorded assists for NEPEAN were Lindsay Eastwood(C), who had two and Blake Orosz and Kristy Pidgeon, who each chipped in one.

OTTAWA excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. OTTAWA's defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. OTTAWA averages 2.4 goals allowed per game.

OTTAWA was helped by Sophie Veronneau, who racked up one goal. Veronneau scored 10:42 into the third period to make the score 3-2 OTTAWA. Amanda Ieradi (A) provided the assist. OTTAWA also had goals scored by Kimiko Marinacci (C) and Anonda Hoppner, who scored one goal each. In addition, OTTAWA received assists from Leah Buchanan (A), who had one.

Kira Bombay rejected 26 shots on goal for NEPEAN. NEPEAN incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Tanya Winchcombe made 45 saves for OTTAWA on 49 shots. OTTAWA incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
