Liberty University takes care of Naval Academy early, wins 17-0

A five-goal first period deficit cost the Naval Academy Midshipmen, which could not recover and fell to the Liberty University Flames, 17-0.

Amanda Grainger had a great game for Liberty University, netting five goals. Grainger notched his first tally 2:13 into the first period. He then added goals at 5:14 into the second, at 9:47 into the second, at 15:05 into the second, and at 5:03 into the third.

The Flames managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Liberty University ended up below its season average of 9.0 penalty minutes per game. The Flames forced Naval Academy goalie Sarah Hutchinson to work between the pipes, taking 80 shots. Liberty University surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Flames average 5.5 goals per contest. The defensemen of Liberty University were also effective in the Midshipmen's zone, and came away with two goals.

Liberty University also got points from Carrie Jickling, who also finished with four goals and three assists to lead the team in points, Jenny Macarthur, who also registered one goal and four assists, Madison Fischer, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Nicole Douglas, who also had one goal and one assist, and Courtney Gilmour, who also finished with two goals and three assists. Chelsey Greenwood also scored for Liberty University. In addition, Liberty University received assists from Brittany Hymers, who had three, Chantal Lischynski, Stephanie St Amand, Catharine Burrell, Caroline Innes, and Clarissa Tipping, who contributed one each, and Sarah Stevenson and Autumn Kucharczyk, who each chipped in two.

Naval Academy did not challenge the opposing netminder, only getting 10 shots on net to force 10 saves.

The Flames' Lischynski stopped 10 shots out of the 10 that he faced. Liberty University registered one goal on one power play opportunities. Hutchinson rejected 63 shots on goal for the Midshipmen. Naval Academy incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors and had no power play opportunities.
