Guelph holds on for 3-2 win against LaSalle

The LaSalle Vipers tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Guelph Hurricanes would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

Guelph took a 3-1 lead during the second period, only to have LaSalle storm back on a Brett Primeau goal 14:27 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Hurricanes pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 18 penalty minutes.

Guelph put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Vipers to score on any of their seven power plays. LaSalle was unable to stop the Hurricanes from sending pucks towards the net, and Guelph eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

The Hurricanes were helped by Michael Courvosier, who finished with one goal. Courvosier scored 11:32 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Guelph. Patrick Kudla provided the assist. Guelph also had goals scored by Mackenzie Flewelling and Craig Martini, who each put in one. In addition, Guelph received assists from Sebastian Stangherlin, Brooker Muir, Chad Herron, and Dylan Sayle, who contributed one each.

The Vipers were often in penalty trouble, totaling 10 minors and one major for 85 minutes in penalty time. LaSalle had been averaging 32.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Vipers could not produce up to their normal offensive output. LaSalle averages 4.2 goals per game. The Vipers forced Guelph goalie Jeremie Lintner to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

Other players who recorded assists for LaSalle were Kyler Carter, who had two and Nicolas Crescenzi and Dalton Langlois, who each chipped in one.

Jeremie Lintner made 30 saves for the Hurricanes on 32 shots. Guelph registered one goal on nine power play opportunities. For the Hurricanes, Herron was ejected from the game. LaSalle's Paolo Battisti stopped 30 shots out of the 33 that he faced. The Vipers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brett Langlois was ejected from the game.
