St. Marys falls apart in second, loses to Leamington, 6-1

The St. Marys Lincolns was within striking distance after one period, but the Leamington Flyers put the pedal down in the second en route to a 6-1 victory.

St. Marys was stymied by Leamington's netminder Michael Barrett, who stopped 28 shots during the victory. The solid play of Barrett will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.44.

The Flyers got the win behind a great game by Travis Campbell, who had one goal and two assists. Campbell scored on the power play 13:36 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Leamington. Leamington had gained a power play chance when Jack Wieringa was whistled for roughing. Matthew Opblinger assisted on the tally.

The Flyers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five St. Marys power plays.

Leamington also got points from Opblinger, who also finished with one goal and two assists and Kyle Perkowski, who also registered one goal and one assist. Leamington also had goals scored by Blaine Bechard, Joe Ogden, and Kyle Quick, who scored one goal each. In addition, Leamington received assists from Eric Henderson, who had two and Ryan Muzzin, Tyler Duarte, Cale Phibbs, Alex Friesen, and Thomas Virban, who contributed one each.

Leamington incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Lincolns' starting goalie, Tyler Beattie, made 16 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Andrew O`Connell, who stopped eight shots. St. Marys incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
