Elmira uses shootout to best Listowel, 2-1 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Elmira Sugar Kings defeated the Listowel Cyclones in a shootout 2-1 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed six turns to complete the shootout. Listowel's shootout goal was scored by Brady Anderson. Elmira also got a shootout goal from Sam Harris.

The Sugar Kings were led by goalie Jonathan Reinhart, who finished with 36 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Reinhart will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.48.

Elmira's penalty kill excelled, as the Sugar Kings gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Elmira was held below its usual level of production. The Sugar Kings put an average of 4.4 pucks into the net per game. Elmira kept the Cyclones' goalie busy throughout the game, and Ryan Hergott made 31 saves on 33 shots.

The Sugar Kings were led by Chad Herron, who grabbed one goal. Herron scored 12:04 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Elmira. Alex Mutton picked up the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Elmira were Rob Kohli, who had one.

Listowel forced Elmira goalie Reinhart to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

The Cyclones were led by Anderson, who scored the team's only goal. Anderson scored on the power play 16:04 into the first period to make the score 1-1. A slashing penalty on Brodie Whitehead had put Listowel on the power play. Ben Shelley assisted on the tally.

The Sugar Kings totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. For Elmira, Whitehead was ejected from the game. The Cyclones ended with nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. Listowel ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Blake Nichol was ejected from the game.
