Caledonia survives Niagara Falls comeback, wins 4-3Gale Centre Fri, Feb 20, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Niagara Falls Canucks tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Caledonia Corvairs would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3. Caledonia made the score 4-2 on a goal by Jayme Forslund at 17:44 in the third period, and Niagara Falls got as close as 4-3 when Nigel Slade scored 19:51 into the third period. The Corvairs were sparked by Forslund, who had one goal. Caledonia stifled the Canucks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Corvairs forced Niagara Falls goalie Dylan Pietrangelo to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. Caledonia additionally got points from Erick Delaurentis, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Matthew Hore, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Jordan Peacock also scored for Caledonia. Other players who recorded assists for Caledonia were Riley Vanhorne, Connor Bramwell, Mitch Purdie, Jake Brown, Tyler Lepore, and Austin McEneny, who each chipped in one. The Canucks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Caledonia to score on any of its eight power plays. Niagara Falls was helped by Austin Wright, who finished with one goal. Wright scored 15:42 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Niagara Falls. Matthew Thorpe picked up the assist. Niagara Falls also got a goal from Daniel Gallagher as well. In addition, Niagara Falls received assists from Matthew Mannella, Jeffrey Venzon, Zachary Plumb, Ryall Ledyard, and Matthew Marsden, who contributed one each. Kevin Entmaa made 24 saves for the Corvairs on 27 shots. Caledonia incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Corvairs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Todd Ratchford was ejected from the game. The Canucks' Pietrangelo stopped 30 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Niagara Falls incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. For the Canucks, Taggart Ledyard was ejected from the game. |
