Leamington outlasts Strathroy, 5-3

The game between the Leamington Flyers and the Strathroy Rockets was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Leamington emerged with a 5-3 win.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Zack Guilbeault's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Chris Scott and Guilbeault provided the spark for the Flyers, combining for three goals and one assist. Scott finished with two goals and Guilbeault also added one goal and one assist.

Leamington forced Strathroy goalie Mat Ouellet to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

Leamington additionally got points from Guilbeault, who also had one goal and one assist. Leamington also had goals scored by Eric Henderson and Colin Moore, who scored one goal each. More assists for Leamington came via J.P. Grineau and Tyler Duarte, who contributed one each and Ryan Muzzin and Mitchell Crevatin, who each chipped in two.

The Rockets' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Leamington power plays. Strathroy's offense rang up 33 shots on the Flyers' net.

The Rockets were helped by Ocean Check, who racked up two goals. Check scored the first of his two goals at 9:56 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Strathroy. Dan Chapman picked up the assist. Check's next tally made the score 3-3 with 10:33 left in the third period. Strathroy had gained a power play chance when Moore was whistled for cross checking. Nick Boyer assisted on the tally. Strathroy also got points from Boyer, who also registered one goal and one assist.

Trevor Wheaton made 30 saves for Leamington on 33 shots. The Flyers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Rockets' Ouellet stopped 32 shots out of the 36 that he faced. Strathroy incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
