Fort Erie wins tough contest against Thorold, 5-3Thorold Community Arena Wed, Feb 18, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Fort Erie Meteors and the Thorold Blackhawks were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Fort Erie made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Vito Scaringi secured the win for the Meteors with a goal in the third period. Anthony Passero had two goals and two assists to lead Fort Erie. Passero scored the first of his two goals at 7:03 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fort Erie. Tristan Drescher provided the assist. Passero's next tally made the score 5-3 Fort Erie with 17:27 left in the third period. Jared Marino picked up the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 13:21 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Meteors' offense rang up 38 shots on Thorold's net. Fort Erie's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Meteors average 2.3 goals per contest. Fort Erie's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Meteors finished with 21 penalty minutes. Fort Erie additionally got points from Scaringi, who also registered one goal and one assist and Marino, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Fort Erie also got a goal from Alex Hurran as well. In addition, Fort Erie received assists from Bryce Martin, who had one and Declan Conway, who had two. The Blackhawks' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. Thorold had been averaging 23.0 minutes in penalties per game. Josh Astorino made 33 saves for the Blackhawks on 38 shots. Thorold registered one goal on three power play opportunities. For the Blackhawks, Scott Dorion was ejected from the game.
