Elmira hangs on, beats Listowel 3-2

The Elmira Sugar Kings took the lead against the Listowel Cyclones in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 3-2 victory.

Elmira took over the lead for good with a goal by Mitch Wright at 17:00 in the first period. Cash Seraphim picked up the assist.

The Sugar Kings were sparked by Mitch Klie, who tallied one goal and one assist. Klie scored 19:27 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Elmira. Seraphim assisted on the tally.

Listowel was unable to stop Elmira from sending pucks towards the net, and the Sugar Kings eventually piled up 36 shots on goal.

Elmira also got a goal from Brendan Schneider as well. Other players who recorded assists for Elmira were Brodie Whitehead, Mac Clutsam, and Zac Coulter, who each chipped in one.

The Cyclones stifled Elmira's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Listowel was led by Derek Elliot, who had one goal. Elliot scored on the power play 16:18 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Cyclones had gained a power play chance when Klie was whistled for goalie interference. Tanner Mighton picked up the assist. Listowel also had goals scored by Keaton Willis and Ray McFalls, who scored one goal each. In addition, Listowel received assists from Tim Nauta and Ben Shelley, who contributed one each.

Andrew Lefebvre recorded 19 saves for the Sugar Kings. Elmira incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Listowel's Ryan Hergott stopped 33 shots out of the 36 that he faced. The Cyclones totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. Listowel ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Blake Nichol was ejected from the game.
