St. Catharines uses big second period to beat Pelham, 17-2

The Pelham Panthers was within striking distance after one period, but the St. Catharines Falcons put the pedal down in the second en route to a 17-2 victory.

Tyler Hildebrant was all over the ice for St. Catharines, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Hildebrant scored 13:57 into the first period to make the score 3-2 St. Catharines. Tyler Jackson provided the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 2:11 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Falcons forced Pelham's netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, totaling 54 shots and forcing 37 saves. Tynan Lauziere made 24 stops and Daniel Kocsis made 13. St. Catharines' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Pelham power plays. The Falcons outdid their season average for goals scored. St. Catharines has scored at the pace of 4.6 goals per game during the current campaign. The defensemen of the Falcons were also effective in the Panthers' zone, and came away with two goals.

St. Catharines also got points from Justin Felker, who also had one goal and one assist, Tyler Morrison, who also tallied two goals and four assists to lead the team in points, Jackson, who also registered one goal and three assists, Ryan Doucette, who also racked up three goals and one assist, Connor Timmins, who also had one goal and one assist, Cam Blakely, who also tallied two goals and one assist, Nicholas Dozzi, who also registered one goal and two assists, Manny Manns, who also racked up two goals and one assist, Devon Rymarchuk, who also had one goal and four assists, and Paolo De Sousa, who also tallied two goals and two assists. In addition, St. Catharines received assists from Jake Evans, who had one, Brock Ackerman, who had three, Brandon Cercone, who had four, and Broderick Kelly and Patrick MacDonald, who each chipped in two.

Pelham was helped by Riley O Connell, who registered one goal. O Connell scored 2:07 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pelham. Anthony Sorrentino assisted on the tally. Pelham also got a goal from Jacob Roy as well. Other players who recorded assists for Pelham were Ayden Dawn and Brady Cranwell, who each chipped in one.

St. Catharines' starting goalie, Ben Csiernik, made 10 saves and finished with the win before he was taken out in favor of Riley Daniels, who stopped five shots. The Falcons totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. St. Catharines ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Josh Miller was ejected from the game. The Panthers ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. For Pelham, Connor Schmalz was ejected from the game.
