St. Thomas falls to LaSalle in overtime, 4-3 (OT)Vollmer Recreation Complex Wed, Feb 11, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The LaSalle Vipers' Chris Pignanelli scored 1:30 into overtime to beat the St. Thomas Stars, 4-3 (OT). LaSalle came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Vipers fell behind 2-0 after a power play goal by St. Thomas' Matt McJannet at 14:00 in the first period. LaSalle knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Nathan Savage at 3:33 in the third period. The Stars were stymied by the Vipers' netminder Eli Billing, who stopped 28 shots during the victory. Billing certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.53 entering the contest. LaSalle forced St. Thomas goalie Brendan Polasek to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots. The Vipers got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. LaSalle also got points from Mark Manchurek, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Nicolas Crescenzi also scored for LaSalle. In addition, LaSalle received assists from Korey Morgan, Brett Langlois, Tyler Russell, Daniel Beaudoin, Manny Silverio, and Brett Primeau, who each chipped in one. The Stars put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow LaSalle to score on any of its four power plays. St. Thomas' offense rang up 38 shots on the Vipers' net. The Stars were led by Dane Johnstone, who racked up one goal and one assist. Johnstone scored 18:34 into the second period to make the score 3-2 St. Thomas. Ryan Valentini picked up the assist. St. Thomas also got a goal from Anders Adzija as well. More assists for St. Thomas came via Blair Mincer and Carson Moniz, who contributed one each. LaSalle incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Polasek rejected 34 shots on goal for St. Thomas. The Stars incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
