Elmira vanquishes Kitchener in shootout, 2-1 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Elmira Sugar Kings defeated the Kitchener Dutchmen in a shootout 2-1 (2-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for six attempts between the teams. Kitchener got a shootout goal from Alex Demrovsky. Elmira's other shootout goal was scored by Sam Harris.

The Sugar Kings came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Elmira trailed 1-0 after a power play goal by the Dutchmen's Wyatt Trainer at 15:32 in the second period. The Sugar Kings knotted things up at 1-1 on a goal by Mac Clutsam at 7:58 in the third period.

Elmira's Jonathan Reinhart was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 36 saves and let only one puck past him. Reinhart certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.5 entering the contest.

The Sugar Kings' offense operated below their season average. Elmira averages 4.4 goals per game. The Sugar Kings' offense rang up 42 shots on Kitchener's net.

More assists for Elmira came via Ethan Skinner and Zac Coulter, who contributed one each.

The Dutchmen stifled Elmira's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Kitchener was held below its usual level of production. The Dutchmen put an average of 4.2 pucks into the net per game. The Sugar Kings were unable to stop Kitchener from sending pucks towards the net, and the Dutchmen eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.

In addition, Kitchener received assists from Mitchell Smith and Jordan Delaurier, who each chipped in one.

Elmira incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Jackson McIntosh made 40 saves for Kitchener on 41 shots. The Dutchmen incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
