Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Welland Jr. Canadians defeated the Ancaster Avalanche in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO). The shootout featured five attempts between both teams.Mitch Reid had two goals to lead Welland to victory. Reid scored at 15:39 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Welland and again while 13:41 into the second to make the score 3-2 Welland. Ancaster was unable to stop the Jr. Canadians from sending pucks towards the net, and Welland eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. Welland also got a goal from Brayden Stortz as well. Other players who recorded assists for Welland were Thomas Flack, who had two and Nathan MacDuff, Matt Martin, Gabe Ruggi, and Tyler Stranges, who contributed one each. The Avalanche's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Welland power plays. Ancaster's offense rang up 40 shots on the Jr. Canadians' net. The Avalanche were led by Alex Zaccaria, who registered one goal and one assist. Zaccaria scored 9:55 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Ben Hughes provided the assist. Ancaster additionally got points from Chris Klack, who also had one goal and one assist. Adam Burnett also scored for Ancaster. Chris Janzen made 37 saves for Welland on 40 shots. The Jr. Canadians incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Welland ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Josh Allan was ejected from the game. Blake Richard rejected 28 shots on goal for Ancaster. The Avalanche incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. For Ancaster, Max Balinson was ejected from the game.
