Waterloo vanquishes Elmira in shootout, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Waterloo Siskins defeated the Elmira Sugar Kings in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed eight turns to complete the shootout. Elmira's shootout goal was scored by Sam Harris. Waterloo's other shootout goal was scored by Gary Mantz.

The Siskins saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Waterloo made the score 3-1 on a short handed goal by Danny Hanlon at 14:38 in the third period. The Sugar Kings evened things up at 3-3 on a short handed goal by Mitch Wright at 19:46 in the third period.

Waterloo also had goals scored by Mantz and Kyle Betts, who scored one goal each. In addition, Waterloo received assists from Christian Mroczkowski, who had one and Eric Cimino and Evan Kearns, who contributed two each.

Elmira was helped by Brendan Schneider, who finished with one goal. Schneider scored 2:41 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Mitch Klie picked up the assist. Adam Brubacher also scored for Elmira. More assists for Elmira came via Mac Clutsam, who had one and Cash Seraphim, who had two.

Evgeny Kiselev recorded 20 saves for the Siskins. Waterloo totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. For the Siskins, Luke Gazzola was ejected from the game. Jonathan Reinhart made 21 saves for the Sugar Kings on 24 shots. Elmira totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. The Sugar Kings ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Connor Hall was ejected from the game.
