St. Thomas vanquishes Lambton Shores in shootout, 5-4 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the St. Thomas Stars defeated the Lambton Shores Predators in a shootout 5-4 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed six turns to complete the shootout.

St. Thomas came back from a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Stars trailed 3-0 after a goal by Lambton Shores' Sean Ross at 4:46 in the second period. St. Thomas knotted things up at 4-4 on a power play goal by Carson Moniz at 16:53 in the third period.

The Stars were sparked by Matt McJannet, who registered one goal. McJannet scored on the power play 9:22 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Lambton Shores. St. Thomas had gotten the advantage when the Predators' Ethan Sarfati was sent off for cross checking. Blair Mincer provided the assist.

The Stars kept Lambton Shores' goalie busy throughout the game, and Anthony Hurtubise made 26 saves on 31 shots.

St. Thomas additionally got points from Mincer, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Moniz, who also had one goal and one assist. St. Thomas also got a goal from Spencer Hutchinson as well. Other players who recorded assists for St. Thomas were Ryan Valentini, who had two and Dan Black, Brett Van Dusen, Adam Truax, and Dane Johnstone, who contributed one each.

The Predators forced St. Thomas goalie Black to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. Lambton Shores could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

Lambton Shores also got points from Brenden Trottier, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. More assists for Lambton Shores came via Franco Sproviero, Vaughn Treppa, Brett Corrigan, Ryan Fraser, and Gino Mini, who each chipped in one.

Black rejected 32 shots on goal for the Stars. St. Thomas incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Predators registered two goals on five power play opportunities.
