Thorold boosted by Astorino's play in net, beats Fort Erie 2-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Josh Astorino helped the Thorold Blackhawks defeat the Fort Erie Meteors, 2-1.

Thorold's penalty kill excelled, as the Blackhawks gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

Thorold was led by Alek Panov, who had one goal. Panov scored 16:23 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Thorold. David Dagostino assisted on the tally.

Scott Dorion also scored for Thorold. In addition, Thorold received assists from Greg Christmas, Nick Giancola, and Tyler Sehovic, who each chipped in one.

Fort Erie's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Thorold power plays. The Blackhawks were unable to stop the Meteors from sending pucks towards the net, and Fort Erie eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

The Meteors were led by Daniel Volpatti, who scored the team's only goal. Volpatti scored on the power play 3:48 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fort Erie. Fort Erie had gotten the advantage when Thorold's Mitchell Mendonca was sent off for hooking. Dan Defranco picked up the assist.

Josh Astorino made 32 saves for the Blackhawks on 33 shots. Thorold incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Mackenzie Savard recorded 27 saves for the Meteors. Fort Erie incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
