Waterloo falls to Elmira in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Elmira Sugar Kings' Mitch Klie scored 3:11 into overtime to beat the Waterloo Siskins, 4-3 (OT).

Elmira's penalty kill excelled, as the Sugar Kings gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 4:41 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Elmira was often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The Sugar Kings surpassed its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game. Elmira's offense rang up 38 shots on Waterloo's net.

The Sugar Kings were led by Ethan Skinner, who registered three goals. More assists for Elmira came via Mitch Wright, who had three and Sam Harris, Brodie Whitehead, Adam Brubacher, Eric Palazzolo, and Mac Clutsam, who contributed one each.

Elmira was unable to stop the Siskins from sending pucks towards the net, and Waterloo eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

The Siskins were helped by Gary Mantz, who grabbed one goal. Mantz scored on the power play 1:35 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Waterloo. A roughing penalty on Cash Seraphim had put Waterloo on the power play. Kyle Betts provided the assist. Waterloo also got points from Michael Romund, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Waterloo also got a goal from Nick Hirst as well. In addition, Waterloo received assists from Eric Cimino, Luke Gazzola, Connor Bodnar, and Chase Campbell, who each chipped in one.

Jonathan Reinhart rejected 28 shots on goal for the Sugar Kings. Elmira registered one goal on three power play opportunities. The Sugar Kings ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Alex Mutton was ejected from the game. Evgeny Kiselev recorded 34 saves for the Siskins. Waterloo ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major. For the Siskins, Matt Romund was ejected from the game.
