Stratford outlasts Cambridge, 6-4

The Stratford Cullitons gutted out a close 6-4 win against the Cambridge Winter Hawks.

Stratford gained the winning advantage on a goal by Tyson Baker 5:59 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer.

Mitch Brooks had one goal and three assists to lead the Cullitons. Brooks scored 11:34 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Stratford. Joe Leahy picked up the assist.

Stratford forced Cambridge goalie Lucas Machalski to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. The Cullitons struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 30 penalty minutes for seven opposing power plays.

Stratford additionally got points from Leahy, who also tallied one goal and two assists and Baker, who also registered one goal and one assist. Stratford also got a goal from Deven Kropf as well. In addition, Stratford received assists from Jared Nash, who had two and Jake Pleon, Trevor Sauder, Hayden Broomhead, and Zach Van Louwe, who contributed one each.

The Winter Hawks kept Stratford's goalie busy throughout the game, and Nicholas Caldwell made 29 saves on 33 shots.

Cambridge was helped by Alex Hulford, who had one goal. Hulford scored 19:24 into the second period to make the score 5-4 Stratford. Alex Bottigoni provided the assist. Cambridge also got points from Jordan Chard, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Cambridge included Zack Magwood and Kalob Witzell, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Cambridge were Maxime Lamontagne, who had two and Tyler Romain, Phil Caputo, and Mitch Atkins, who each chipped in one.

The Cullitons registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Machalski recorded 28 saves for the Winter Hawks. Cambridge incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
