Early goals doom Brampton, falls to Guelph, 10-0Victoria Park Arena Fri, Feb 06, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
A four-goal first period deficit cost the Brampton Bombers, which could not recover and fell to the Guelph Hurricanes, 10-0. Craig Martini had two goals and two assists to lead Guelph. Martini scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 13:37 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Guelph. The Hurricanes had gotten the advantage when Brampton's Chris Hill was sent off for charging. Brody Milne picked up the assist. Martini's next tally on the power play made the score 4-0 Guelph with 2:39 left in the first period. Milne assisted on the tally. The Bombers were doomed by their poor performance on special teams, as Guelph was able to score five times while on the power play. The Hurricanes forced Brampton's goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, getting 45 shots and forcing 35 saves. Jake Lawr made 17 stops and Shane Dietl made 18. Guelph excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Hurricanes bested their season scoring average. This season, Guelph averages 3.8 goals per contest. Guelph additionally got points from Matt Nightingale, who also racked up two goals and one assist, Brooker Muir, who also registered one goal and one assist, Stefano Pezzetta, who also finished with one goal and three assists, Milne, who also grabbed one goal and three assists, and Dylan Sayle, who also finished with two goals and one assist. Lawrence Pagnan also scored for Guelph. Other players who recorded assists for Guelph were Cameron Stokes, who had two, Patrick Kudla, who had four, and Alex Remedios and Giordano Finoro, who contributed one each. The Bombers were held below their usual level of production. Brampton puts an average of 2.6 pucks into the net per game. The Bombers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 40 minutes in penalties during the game. Jason DaSilva recorded 21 saves for the Hurricanes. Guelph incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
