Sarnia uses early goal to top London, 3-1

Ryan Vendramin scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Sarnia Legionnaires held off the challenges of the London Nationals in a tough 3-1 win.

Sarnia took over the lead for good with a goal by Vendramin at 10:49 in the first period. Brandon Layman provided the assist.

The Legionnaires' Andrew Masters was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 31 saves and let only one puck past him. Masters managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.88 prior to the game.

Sarnia was paced by Jordan Fogarty, who finished with one goal. Fogarty scored 17:37 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Sarnia. Vendramin picked up the assist.

The Legionnaires kept London's goalie busy throughout the game, and Justin Tugwell made 28 saves on 31 shots.

Sarnia also got points from Vendramin, who also registered one goal and one assist. Sarnia also got a goal from Ryan Trottier as well. Other players who recorded assists for Sarnia were Davis Boyer, Cameron Clarke, and Kyler Keating, who contributed one each.

The Nationals managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. London ended up below its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game. The Nationals could not produce up to their normal offensive output. London puts an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game. The Nationals' offense rang up 32 shots on Sarnia's net.

London was led by Trevor Dulong, who scored the team's only goal. Dulong scored 16:33 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Sarnia. Ethan Cocurullo assisted on the tally.

The Legionnaires incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Nationals registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
