Niagara Falls wins tough contest against Thorold, 3-2Thorold Community Arena Wed, Feb 04, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Niagara Falls Canucks and the Thorold Blackhawks were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Niagara Falls made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2. The Canucks gained the winning advantage on a goal by Nigel Slade 15:32 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. Austin Wright was all over the ice for Niagara Falls, as he grabbed two goals in the win. Wright's tallies came at 20 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Niagara Falls and 11:19 into the third to make the score 2-2. The Canucks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Thorold power plays. Niagara Falls kept Thorold's goalie busy throughout the game, and Josh Astorino made 29 saves on 32 shots. In addition, Niagara Falls received assists from Colton Anstey, who had two and Frank Pucci, Zack Lansfield, Mac Hollowell, and Trevor Simonick, who contributed one each. The Blackhawks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. Thorold was helped by Anthony Postiglione, who tallied one goal. Postiglione scored 15:33 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Nick Sacco picked up the assist. Thorold also got a goal from Dan Abbott as well. Other players who recorded assists for Thorold were Nathan Dosa and David Dagostino, who each chipped in one. Joseph Murdaca made 28 saves for the Canucks on 30 shots. Niagara Falls ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. The Canucks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Dayne Johnson was ejected from the game. The Blackhawks incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
