Muir's big game bests Kitchener in 8-2 Guelph win

The Guelph Hurricanes' Brooker Muir had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 8-2 win over the Kitchener Dutchmen.

Muir's tallies came on the power play at 9:57 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Guelph and 16:36 into the second to make the score 4-2 Guelph.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 9:11 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

Guelph was often in penalty trouble, totaling 11 minors and two majors for 52 minutes in penalty time. The Hurricanes had been averaging 22.0 minutes in penalties per game. Guelph put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Kitchener to score on any of its five power plays. The Dutchmen were unable to stop the Hurricanes from sending pucks towards the net, and Guelph eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. The Hurricanes' goal total was higher than their season average. Guelph has scored at the pace of 3.8 goals per game during the current campaign.

Guelph additionally got points from Cameron Stokes, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Brody Milne, who also had one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Guelph included Ryan Migliaccio, who had two and Jake Wyse and Giordano Finoro, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Guelph were Peyton Backus, who had two, Craig Martini, who had three, and Mackenzie Flewelling, Patrick Kudla, and Stefano Pezzetta, who contributed one each.

Kitchener forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 11 minors and three majors for 57 minutes in penalty time. The Dutchmen surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. Kitchener's offense operated below its season average. The Dutchmen average 4.3 goals per game.

Kitchener was helped by Connor Cole, who finished with one goal. Cole scored 18:25 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Adam Kawalec assisted on the tally. Kitchener also got a goal from Jordan Delaurier as well. In addition, Kitchener received assists from Alex Demrovsky, who had one.

Jason DaSilva rejected 22 shots on goal for the Hurricanes. Guelph registered one goal on five power play opportunities. For the Hurricanes, Wyse, Sebastian Stangherlin, and Kudla were ejected from the contest. The Dutchmen's Jackson McIntosh stopped 26 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Team's Sean Allen and Jeremy Kuehn were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
