Sarnia boosted by Masters' play in net, beats Strathroy 4-1West Middlesex Arena Sat, Jan 31, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
A stellar performance between the pipes by Andrew Masters helped the Sarnia Legionnaires defeat the Strathroy Rockets, 4-1. Sarnia's penalty kill excelled, as the Legionnaires gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays. Sarnia was led by Jordan Fogarty, who finished with one goal and one assist. Fogarty scored 12:05 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Sarnia. Ryan Vendramin picked up the assist. The Legionnaires stifled Strathroy's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Rockets were unable to stop Sarnia from sending pucks towards the net, and the Legionnaires eventually piled up 39 shots on goal. Sarnia was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 24 penalty minutes. Sarnia additionally got points from Vendramin, who also registered two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Cody Trowell also scored for Sarnia. Other players who recorded assists for Sarnia were Davis Boyer, who had one and Brandon Layman, who had two. Strathroy's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Sarnia power plays. The Rockets did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Strathroy puts an average of 3.8 pucks into the net per game. The Rockets' offense rang up 41 shots on the Legionnaires' net. Andrew Masters made 40 saves for Sarnia on 41 shots. The Legionnaires ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Trowell was ejected from the game. Strathroy's Mat Ouellet stopped 35 shots out of the 39 that he faced. The Rockets incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For Strathroy, Sam Vokes was ejected from the game.
