Sarnia's comeback falls short, LaSalle wins 7-6Sarnia Arena Thu, Jan 29, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The LaSalle Vipers, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by the Sarnia Legionnaires and clinched a 7-6 victory. LaSalle led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Vipers' Nathan Savage scored at 13:48 in the first period to put LaSalle up 3-0. Savage was all over the ice for the Vipers, as he tallied two goals in the win. LaSalle's penalty kill excelled, as the Vipers gave up zero goals despite allowing eight power plays. LaSalle stifled Sarnia's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Vipers forced the Legionnaires goalie Cornel Felder to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. LaSalle bested its season scoring average. The Vipers have scored at the pace of 4.3 goals per game during the current campaign. LaSalle was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 21 penalty minutes. LaSalle additionally got points from Brendan Harrogate, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Manny Silverio, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for LaSalle included Korey Morgan, Nikko Sablone, and Brett Primeau, who scored one goal each. More assists for LaSalle came via Connor Rosaasen, Graham Pickard, and Dalton Langlois, who each chipped in one and Nicolas Crescenzi, Chris Pignanelli, Eric Kirby, and Daniel Beaudoin, who contributed two each. Sarnia's offense rang up 36 shots on the Vipers' net. The Legionnaires were helped by Brandon Layman, who registered one goal. Layman scored short handed 2:13 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Sarnia. A hooking call on Davis Boyer put Sarnia on the penalty kill. Mitch Read provided the assist. Sarnia also got points from Jay Clarke, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Jordan Fogarty, who also had one goal and one assist. Sarnia also had goals scored by Nathan Mater and Hunter Tyczynski, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Sarnia were Ryan Vendramin, who had one and Riley Babkirk and Tyler Prong, who contributed two each. Eli Billing rejected 30 shots on goal for LaSalle. The Vipers registered one goal on four power play opportunities. LaSalle ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Sablone was ejected from the game. Cornel Felder made 30 saves for the Legionnaires on 37 shots. Sarnia ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For the Legionnaires, PJ Vandervaart was ejected from the game.
