Caledonia penalty kill dominates in 2-1 defeat of Thorold

The Caledonia Corvairs, which found themselves down a man often, weathered the Thorold Blackhawks' power play opportunities and emerged with a 2-1 victory.

Caledonia was sparked by Todd Ratchford, who tallied one goal. Ratchford scored 5:39 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Caledonia. Jake Brown assisted on the tally.

The Corvairs could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Caledonia puts an average of 4.6 pucks into the net per game. Thorold was unable to stop the Corvairs from sending pucks towards the net, and Caledonia eventually piled up 39 shots on goal. The Corvairs managed to hold the Blackhawks' power play largely in check, allowing only one goal while on the disadvantage. Caledonia could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 38 minutes in penalties during the game.

Caledonia also got points from Brown, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Caledonia were Jordan Peacock, who had one and Nathan Gomes, who had two.

Thorold excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.

The Blackhawks were led by Nick Prestia, who scored the team's only goal. Prestia scored on the power play 14:59 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Thorold. Thorold had gotten the advantage when the Corvairs' Erick Delaurentis was sent off for checking from behind. Mitchell Mendonca picked up the assist.

Kevin Entmaa recorded 20 saves for Caledonia. For the Corvairs, Connor Patton, Delaurentis, and Matthew Hore were ejected from the contest. The Blackhawks' Josh Astorino stopped 37 shots out of the 39 that he faced. Thorold incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
