Kitchener uses early goal to top Brantford, 3-1

The Kitchener Dutchmen took the lead against the Brantford 99ers in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 3-1 victory.

A goal 5:44 into the first period by Mitchell Smith proved to be the game winner, and powered Kitchener to the victory. Jordan Delaurier assisted on the tally.

The Dutchmen were led by goalie Harrison Pharoah, who finished with 25 saves while allowing one goal. Despite the solid performance, Pharoah will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 1.0 entering the contest.

Kitchener was paced by Adam Kawalec, who grabbed one goal. Kawalec scored 16:50 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Kitchener. Connor Cole provided the assist.

The Dutchmen stifled Brantford's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Kitchener additionally got points from Smith, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Kitchener also got a goal from Keegan Calder as well. In addition, Kitchener received assists from Nathan Grossi, who had one.

The 99ers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Kitchener to score on any of its five power plays.

Brantford was led by Christian Polillo, who scored the team's only goal. Polillo scored 17:27 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Kitchener. Dave Dinardi picked up the assist.

The Dutchmen incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Nathan (APJ) Mackinnon made 25 saves for the 99ers on 28 shots. Brantford incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
