Elmira pulls away in second, rolls over Brampton, 9-0Dan Snyder Memorial Sun, Jan 25, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Brampton Bombers allowed the Elmira Sugar Kings to net three goals during the second period and fell, 9-0. Elmira got the win thanks to a great game by Steven Jakiela, who had two goals and one assist. Jakiela scored the first of his two goals at 5:27 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Elmira. Eric Palazzolo assisted on the tally. Jakiela's next tally made the score 5-0 Elmira with 15:27 left in the third period. Mitch Wright picked up the assist. The Sugar Kings pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 14 penalty minutes. Elmira stifled Brampton's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Sugar Kings' defense was surprisingly good. Elmira averages 2.7 goals allowed per game. The Bombers were unable to stop the Sugar Kings from sending pucks towards the net, and Elmira eventually piled up 57 shots on goal. The Sugar Kings' goal total was higher than their season average. Elmira averages 4.5 goals per game. Elmira additionally got points from Ethan Skinner, who also grabbed one goal and two assists and Zac Coulter, who also registered two goals and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Elmira included Mitch Klie, Brendan Schneider, Chad Herron, and Kevin Gergely, who scored one goal each. In addition, Elmira received assists from Mac Clutsam and Cash Seraphim, who each chipped in one and Adam Brubacher and Rob Kohli, who contributed two each. Brampton did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Bombers put an average of 2.6 pucks into the net per game. Andrew Lefebvre made 23 saves for the Sugar Kings on 23 shots. Elmira registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Brampton's Shane Dietl stopped 48 shots out of the 57 that he faced. The Bombers incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
