Brown's big game bests Welland in 6-3 Caledonia win

Behind a great game by Jake Brown, who had one goal and two assists, the Caledonia Corvairs defeated the Welland Jr. Canadians, 6-3.

Brown got on the board by slotting home a goal 2:02 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Caledonia. Nathan Gomes assisted on the tally. Brown dished an assist on Gomes' goal that made the score 2-0 Caledonia at 5:33 into the first period. He added another helper on Jordan Peacock's goal that made the score 4-0 Caledonia at 13:19 into the first period.

Caledonia's penalty kill excelled, as the Corvairs gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays.

Caledonia forced Jr. Canadians' goaltenders to work all game long, taking 49 shots and forcing 43 saves. Brandon McCorriston made 34 stops and Chris Janzen made nine.

Caledonia also got points from Peacock, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Luke Sinclair, who also registered one goal and one assist, Connor Patton, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Gomes, who also had one goal and two assists. Caledonia also got a goal from Ryan Moran as well. In addition, Caledonia received assists from Cosimo Fontana, who had two and Kyle Tanev, Erick Delaurentis, and Matthew Hore, who contributed one each.

Welland put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Corvairs to score on any of their four power plays. The Jr. Canadians' defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. Welland is averaging 2.2 goals against for the season.

The Jr. Canadians were helped by Jack Fitzgerald, who finished with one goal. Fitzgerald scored 10:56 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Caledonia. Max Cipriano picked up the assist. Welland additionally got points from Kris Melna, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Cameron Aitken also scored for Welland. More assists for Welland came via Matt Cuglietta, Josh Allan, and Andy Paul, who each chipped in one.

Kevin Entmaa recorded 19 saves for Caledonia. The Corvairs incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Welland incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
