Behind a great game by Trevor Simonick, who had two goals, the Niagara Falls Canucks defeated the Ancaster Avalanche, 3-1. Simonick scored at 19:17 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while 19:20 into the third to make the score 3-1 Niagara Falls.Niagara Falls' Joseph Murdaca was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 39 saves and let only one puck past him. Murdaca certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.39 entering the contest. The Canucks pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 12 penalty minutes. The defensemen of Niagara Falls were also effective in Ancaster's zone, and came away with two goals. Niagara Falls also got points from Frank Pucci, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Niagara Falls received assists from Nigel Slade, who had two and Sean Farquharson and Colton Anstey, who contributed one each. The Avalanche stifled the Canucks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Ancaster was held below its usual level of production. The Avalanche put an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game. Ancaster's offense rang up 40 shots on Niagara Falls' net. The Avalanche were led by Max Balinson, who scored the team's only goal. Balinson scored on the power play 15:39 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ancaster. A high sticking penalty on Austin Wright had put Ancaster on the power play. Brett Farrelly picked up the assist. The Canucks registered zero goals on four power play opportunities. For Niagara Falls, Matthew Thorpe was ejected from the game. Blake Richard made 26 saves for the Avalanche on 28 shots. Ancaster incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
