Huge game by Lamontagne boosts Cambridge over Listowel, 5-0

Behind a great game by Maxime Lamontagne, who had one goal and three assists, the Cambridge Winter Hawks defeated the Listowel Cyclones, 5-0.

Lamontagne scored 2:09 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cambridge. Alex Bottigoni provided the assist. Lamontagne dished an assist on Bottigoni's goal that made the score 2-0 Cambridge at 7:35 into the first period. He then added assists on Mitch Atkins's goal at 19:06 into the second and on Bottigoni's goal at 17:37 into the third.

Listowel's power play was ineffective against Cambridge's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 6:18 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with four game misconducts.

The Winter Hawks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Listowel power plays. Cambridge's defense was surprisingly good. The Winter Hawks average 3.0 goals allowed per game.

Cambridge additionally got points from Bottigoni, who also racked up two goals and one assist and Atkins, who also registered one goal and one assist. Cambridge also got a goal from Aaron Nunes as well. In addition, Cambridge received assists from Beau Goehrum, Matt Harding, Zack Magwood, Zack Hedley, and Josh Grant, who each chipped in one.

The Cyclones could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Listowel puts an average of 2.7 pucks into the net per game.

Lucas Machalski made 23 saves for Cambridge on 23 shots. The Winter Hawks totaled 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Team's Magwood, Rob Grant, and Phil Caputo were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. The Cyclones' Tyler Fassl stopped 22 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Listowel ended with 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors. For the Cyclones, Derek Elliot and Chad Lemire were ejected from the contest.
