Thorold uses shootout to best Niagara Falls, 4-3 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Thorold Blackhawks defeated the Niagara Falls Canucks in a shootout 4-3 (2-0 SO).

The shootout featured four attempts between both teams. Thorold's other shootout goal was scored by Tyler Sehovic.

The Blackhawks nearly gave up a four-score lead. Thorold made it 4-0 on a power play goal by Alek Panov at 18:00 in the first period. Niagara Falls pulled to within 4-3 on a power play goal by Ryall Ledyard at 5:54 in the third period.

The Canucks' power play was ineffective against the Blackhawks' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Thorold was held back by its power play unit, which tallied one goal on 11 chances.

Others who scored for Thorold included Kyle Langdon and Nathan Dosa, who scored one goal each. More assists for Thorold came via Mitchell Mendonca, who had two and Nick Prestia, Nick Sacco, and Anthony Postiglione, who each chipped in one.

The Blackhawks were unable to stop Niagara Falls from sending pucks towards the net, and the Canucks eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.

Niagara Falls also got points from Sean Farquharson, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Zack Lansfield, who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, Niagara Falls received assists from Austin Wright, who had two and Kevin Millejours and Nigel Slade, who contributed one each.

Josh Astorino made 37 saves for Thorold on 40 shots. The Blackhawks incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Niagara Falls' Dylan Pietrangelo stopped 17 shots out of the 20 that he faced. The Canucks incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
