Mantz's hat trick boosts Waterloo over Brampton, 7-3Victoria Park Arena Fri, Jan 23, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
Gary Mantz lifted the Waterloo Siskins to a 7-3 victory with a hat trick against the Brampton Bombers. Mantz notched his first tally 4:39 into the second period. He then added goals at 8:54 into the second and at 10:53 into the third.Waterloo pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 42 penalty minutes. The Siskins excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in nine chances. Brampton was unable to stop Waterloo from sending pucks towards the net, and the Siskins eventually piled up 36 shots on goal. Waterloo found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Siskins average 4.3 goals per game. Waterloo additionally got points from Evan Kearns, who also racked up two goals and one assist and Christian Mroczkowski, who also grabbed one goal and four assists to lead the team in points. Waterloo also got a goal from Chase Campbell as well. In addition, Waterloo received assists from Michael Romund and Matt Romund, who each chipped in one and Kyle Betts and Danny Hanlon, who contributed two each. The Bombers found themselves short handed often, totaling 30 penalty minutes and allowing seven power plays. Brampton was helped by Carmine Vietri, who tallied two goals. Vietri scored the first of his two goals at 2:16 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Shawn Madden assisted on the tally. Vietri's next tally made the score 4-2 Waterloo with 3:00 left in the second period. Lucas Goodman picked up the assist. Brampton also got points from Kevin Bray, who also registered one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Brampton were Noah Robinson and Mitchell Byrne, who each chipped in one. Bailey DeGasperis rejected 23 shots on goal for Waterloo. For the Siskins, Nick Hirst and Eric Cimino were ejected from the contest. Jake Lawr recorded 29 saves for the Bombers.
