Ouellet stymies St. Thomas, Strathroy wins 4-1Joe Thornton RC Fri, Jan 23, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Strathroy Rockets relied on the sparkling performance of Mat Ouellet in net to grab a 4-1 win against the St. Thomas Stars. Strathroy was led by Andrew Martin, who finished with one goal. Martin scored 2:05 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Strathroy. Stuart King picked up the assist. The Rockets excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Strathroy kept St. Thomas' goalie busy throughout the game, and Brendan Polasek made 33 saves on 37 shots. Strathroy also had goals scored by Nick Griffin, Eddie Schulz, and Mark MacAulay, who scored one goal each. In addition, Strathroy received assists from Dan Chapman, who had two and Marcus Baird, Kurtis Sander, and Matt Knight-Bedour, who contributed one each. The Stars stifled the Rockets' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. St. Thomas could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Stars put an average of 3.2 pucks into the net per game. St. Thomas forced Strathroy goalie Ouellet to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots. The Stars were led by Josh Slegers, who scored the team's only goal. Slegers scored 2:24 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Thomas. Ryan Valentini assisted on the tally. Ouellet recorded 37 saves for the Rockets. Strathroy incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. St. Thomas incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
