Sarnia outlasts London, 7-5

The Sarnia Legionnaires gutted out a close 7-5 win against the London Nationals.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Jordan Fogarty secured the win for Sarnia with a goal in the second period.

Fogarty had two goals and one assist to lead the Legionnaires. Fogarty scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 5:39 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Sarnia. Sarnia had gained a power play chance when Kevin Madden was whistled for hooking. Ryan Vendramin assisted on the tally. Fogarty's next tally on the power play made the score 5-3 Sarnia with 13:37 left in the second period. Vendramin picked up the assist.

The Legionnaires' penalty kill excelled, as Sarnia gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

London was unable to stop the Legionnaires from sending pucks towards the net, and Sarnia eventually piled up 42 shots on goal. The Legionnaires surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Sarnia averages 4.6 goals per game. The Legionnaires cashed in on power play opportunities, scoring three goals on five chances. Sarnia was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 54 penalty minutes.

Sarnia additionally got points from Vendramin, who also tallied one goal and two assists, Riley Babkirk, who also racked up one goal and two assists, and Kyler Keating, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Sarnia included Cody Trowell and Hunter Tyczynski, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Sarnia were Cameron Clarke, who had two and Connor Andersen, Jay Clarke, Brandon Layman, and Ryan Trottier, who contributed one each.

The Nationals kept the Legionnaires' goalie busy throughout the game, and Andrew Masters made 38 saves on 43 shots. London could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 54 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Nationals were helped by Trevor Dulong, who finished with one goal. Dulong scored 13:39 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Rai Di Loreto assisted on the tally. London also got points from Austin Kemp, who also tallied one goal and one assist. London also had goals scored by Kyle L Robinson, Scott Goodman, and Matt Bean, who each put in one. In addition, London received assists from Callum Ruddock and Michael Woolley, who each chipped in one.

Sarnia ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Vendramin was ejected from the game. London's Justin Tugwell stopped 35 shots out of the 41 that he faced.
