Savard stymies Welland, Fort Erie wins 2-1

The Fort Erie Meteors relied on the sparkling performance of Mackenzie Savard in net to grab a 2-1 win against the Welland Jr. Canadians.

Fort Erie was paced by Dakota Miskolczi, who racked up one goal. Miskolczi scored 19:39 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Fort Erie. Jared Marino assisted on the tally.

The Meteors excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.

Fort Erie also got a goal from Richard DeMarco as well. More assists for Fort Erie came via Declan Conway, Daniel Volpatti, and Romaeo D Intino, who each chipped in one.

Welland's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Fort Erie power plays. The Jr. Canadians did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Welland puts an average of 3.7 pucks into the net per game.

The Jr. Canadians were led by Max Cipriano, who scored the team's only goal. Cipriano scored 14:32 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Welland. Jack Fitzgerald picked up the assist.

Savard recorded 28 saves for Fort Erie. The Meteors incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Chris Janzen made 25 saves for Welland on 27 shots. The Jr. Canadians ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For Welland, Brayden Stortz was ejected from the game.
