Elmira outlasts Kitchener, 5-3

The Elmira Sugar Kings and the Kitchener Dutchmen were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Elmira made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Mitch Wright's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

The Sugar Kings' offense rang up 46 shots on Kitchener's net.

Elmira was led by Rob Kohli, who tallied two goals. Kohli scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 1:13 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Elmira. Mitch Klie assisted on the tally. Kohli's next tally on the power play made the score 3-1 Elmira with 16:03 left in the second period. The Sugar Kings earned a power play opportunity when Jeremy Kuehn was put in the box for interference. Klie picked up the assist. Elmira additionally got points from Cash Seraphim, who also registered one goal and one assist. Brendan Schneider also scored for Elmira. More assists for Elmira came via Zac Coulter, who had one and Adam Brubacher and Mac Clutsam, who each chipped in two.

The Dutchmen kept Elmira's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jonathan Reinhart made 36 saves on 39 shots.

Kitchener was led by Keegan Calder, who had two goals and one assist. Calder scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 1:25 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kitchener. The Dutchmen had gained a power play chance when Brubacher was whistled for cross checking. Adam Kawalec assisted on the tally. Calder's next tally on the power play made the score 3-3 with 19:25 left in the third period. Connor Cole picked up the assist. Kitchener also got points from Cole, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. In addition, Kitchener received assists from Kyle Ellis, who had three.

The Sugar Kings incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. Jackson McIntosh rejected 41 shots on goal for Kitchener. The Dutchmen incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
