Welland falls to Ancaster in overtime, 2-1 (OT)

The Ancaster Avalanche pulled out a 2-1 (OT) overtime victory over the Welland Jr. Canadians on a clutch goal by Chris Klack.

Ancaster's Matt Calas was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 29 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of Calas will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.85.

The Avalanche were led by Klack, who racked up one goal. Klack scored 4:40 into overtime to make the score 2-1 Ancaster. Luke Zupan provided the assist.

Ancaster kept Welland's goalie busy throughout the game, and Chris Janzen made 32 saves on 34 shots.

Ancaster also got a goal from Brett Farrelly as well. In addition, Ancaster received assists from Ryan Knill, who had one and Adam Burnett, who had two.

The Jr. Canadians could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Welland puts an average of 3.6 pucks into the net per game.

The Jr. Canadians were led by Brayden Stortz, who scored the team's only goal. Stortz scored on the power play 16:13 into the second period to make the score 1-1. A hooking penalty on Donato Cipriano had put Welland on the power play. Matt Martin picked up the assist.

The Avalanche incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Ancaster ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Knill was ejected from the game. The Jr. Canadians incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
