Brantford wins tough contest against Cambridge, 4-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Brantford 99ers escaped with a 4-3 victory over the Cambridge Winter Hawks.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Dominick Horvath secured the win for Brantford with a goal in the third period.

In a losing effort, Cambridge was led by Mitch Atkins, who had two goals. Atkins scored the first of his two goals at 5:38 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cambridge. Alex Bottigoni provided the assist. Atkins' next tally made the score 2-2 with 15:32 left in the second period. The Winter Hawks had taken the advantage when the 99ers' Nathan Ferris got sent off for roughing. Phil Caputo picked up the assist.

Brantford was sparked by Horvath, who grabbed one goal. Horvath scored 18:52 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Brantford. Zander Pryor provided the assist.

The 99ers got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game.

Brantford additionally got points from Cole Cummings, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Matthew Woods, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Brantford received assists from Dave Dinardi, who had two and Christian Polillo, Paris Briscoe, and Keegan Alvestad, who contributed one each.

Cambridge excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Winter Hawks forced Brantford goalie Nathan (APJ) Mackinnon to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots.

Cambridge also got a goal from Zack Magwood as well. More assists for Cambridge came via Matt Harding, Maxime Lamontagne, and Drew Stirling, who each chipped in one.

The 99ers' (APJ) Mackinnon stopped 42 shots out of the 45 that he faced. Brantford ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. The 99ers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brett Parsons was ejected from the game. Owen Savory rejected 24 shots on goal for Cambridge. The Winter Hawks totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. For Cambridge, Zack Hedley was ejected from the game.
