Caledonia survives penalties, beats Ancaster, 5-2Haldimand Center Fri, Jan 16, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Caledonia Corvairs, which found themselves down a man often, weathered the Ancaster Avalanche's power play opportunities and emerged with a 5-2 victory. Caledonia was paced by Connor Patton, who tallied one goal. Patton scored 13:24 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Caledonia. Cosimo Fontana picked up the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 14:08 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts. The Corvairs forced Ancaster goalie Matt Calas to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots. Caledonia was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 28 penalty minutes. The Corvairs were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to two goals off of nine man advantages. Caledonia additionally got points from Mitch Purdie, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Caledonia also had goals scored by Connor Bramwell, Nathan Gomes, and Austin McEneny, who scored one goal each. More assists for Caledonia came via Tyler Lepore, who had two and Luke Sinclair, Erick Delaurentis, Jake Brown, Matthew Hore, and Todd Ratchford, who each chipped in one. The Avalanche's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and three majors for 43 minutes in penalty time. Ancaster had been averaging 24.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Avalanche were helped by Alex Zaccaria, who had one goal. Zaccaria scored 7:55 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Ancaster. Jesse Hilton assisted on the tally. Michael Pollice also scored for Ancaster. In addition, Ancaster received assists from Blake Luscombe, who had one. Kevin Entmaa made 24 saves for Caledonia on 26 shots. Team's Bramwell and Ratchford were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Calas rejected 37 shots on goal for Ancaster. The Avalanche registered one goal on six power play opportunities. For Ancaster, Cole Nagy, Brennan McLennan, and Luscombe were ejected from the contest.
