Listowel vanquishes Cambridge in shootout, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Listowel Cyclones defeated the Cambridge Winter Hawks in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured six attempts between both teams.

Listowel came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Cyclones trailed 2-1 after a power play goal by Cambridge's Kyle Liu at 9:07 in the second period. Listowel knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Derek Elliot at 18:23 in the third period.

Elliot had two goals to lead the Cyclones to victory.

Listowel's offense rang up 40 shots on the Winter Hawks' net.

Other players who recorded assists for Listowel were Corey Flemington, Garrett James, Tim Nauta, and Jamie Huber, who each chipped in one.

Cambridge was led by Alex Bottigoni, who had one goal and one assist. Bottigoni scored 52 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-0 Cambridge. Mitch Atkins assisted on the tally. More assists for Cambridge came via Maxime Lamontagne, who had one.

Tyler Fassl rejected 25 shots on goal for the Cyclones. Listowel incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Lucas Machalski recorded 37 saves for the Winter Hawks. Cambridge incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Winter Hawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Liu was ejected from the game.
