St. Thomas squeaks by Sarnia, 4-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the St. Thomas Stars escaped with a 4-3 victory over the Sarnia Legionnaires.

St. Thomas gained the winning advantage on a goal by Jay Dekker 4:46 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

The Stars were led by Dekker, who registered one goal.

In a losing effort, Sarnia was paced by Cody Trowell, who had two goals. Trowell scored the first of his two goals at 6:21 into the second period to make the score 2-2. PJ Vandervaart assisted on the tally. Trowell's next tally made the score 3-2 Sarnia with 17:30 left in the third period. Ryan Trottier picked up the assist.

The Legionnaires were unable to stop St. Thomas from sending pucks towards the net, and the Stars eventually piled up 42 shots on goal. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

St. Thomas also got points from Jesse Anderson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. St. Thomas also had goals scored by James Newland and Carter McCormick, who scored one goal each. In addition, St. Thomas received assists from Dane Johnstone, who had three and Josh Slegers, Carson Moniz, Ryan Valentini, and Andrew Chambers, who each chipped in one.

Sarnia forced St. Thomas goalie Brendan Polasek to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots.

Ryan Vendramin also scored for Sarnia. Other players who recorded assists for Sarnia were Riley Babkirk and Kyler Keating, who contributed one each.

Polasek rejected 36 shots on goal for the Stars. St. Thomas incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Andrew Masters made 38 saves for the Legionnaires on 42 shots. Sarnia incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
