Bray nets hat trick, leads Brampton to 7-4 win over Listowel

Kevin Bray netted a hat trick to lead the Brampton Bombers over the Listowel Cyclones, 7-4.

Bray got on the scoresheet 17 seconds into the first period. He then added goals at 15:01 into the first and at 3:21 into the second.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 8:17 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Brampton's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and two majors for 48 minutes in penalty time. The Bombers had been averaging 24.0 minutes in penalties per game. Brampton's goal total was higher than its season average. The Bombers have scored at the pace of 2.7 goals per game during the current campaign.

Brampton also got points from Cameron Cruickshank, who also tallied one goal and two assists and Mitchell Byrne, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Carmine Vietri also scored for Brampton. Other players who recorded assists for Brampton were Nick Petropoulos, who had one and Anton Bura, Lucas Goodman, and Noah Robinson, who each chipped in two.

Listowel forced Brampton goalie Shane Dietl to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. The Cyclones had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on 11 chances.

Listowel was helped by Derek Elliot, who had two goals. Elliot scored the first of his two goals at 16:12 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Ben VanOotegham assisted on the tally. Elliot's next tally made the score 5-4 Brampton with 6:08 left in the second period. Listowel additionally got points from Tim Nauta, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Listowel included Brady Anderson and Brad Yowart, who scored one goal each. In addition, Listowel received assists from Keaton Willis and Jamie Huber, who contributed one each.

Dietl recorded 35 saves for the Bombers. Brampton registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Team's Sam Hisey and Cameron DeFazio were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. The Cyclones' starting goalie, Ryan Hergott, made 11 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Tyler Fassl, who stopped six shots. Listowel ended with 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors. For the Cyclones, Ethan Morrison and Corey Flemington were ejected from the contest.
