Kitchener uses early goal to top Cambridge, 2-0

Alex Demrovsky scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Kitchener Dutchmen held off the challenges of the Cambridge Winter Hawks in a tough 2-0 win.

Demrovsky provided Kitchener with the game-winning tally when he scored 5:32 into the first period. Jeremy Kuehn provided the assist.

Jackson McIntosh frustrated Cambridge's offense all game, and stopped 36 shots en route to a shutout. McIntosh certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.81 entering the contest.

The Winter Hawks' power play was ineffective against the Dutchmen's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Kitchener excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. The Dutchmen's offense operated below their season average. Kitchener averages 4.3 goals per game. The Dutchmen's offense rang up 33 shots on Cambridge's net.

Adam Kawalec also scored for Kitchener. Other players who recorded assists for Kitchener were Connor Cole, who had one.

The Winter Hawks stifled Kitchener's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Cambridge could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Winter Hawks put an average of 2.9 pucks into the net per game. Cambridge's offense rang up 36 shots on the Dutchmen's net.

Kitchener incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Lucas Machalski made 31 saves for the Winter Hawks on 33 shots. Cambridge incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
