Elmira squeaks by Stratford, 4-2

The Elmira Sugar Kings gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Stratford Cullitons.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Mitch Wright secured the win for Elmira with a goal in the third period.

The Sugar Kings' penalty kill excelled, as Elmira gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

The Sugar Kings were led by Wright, who racked up one goal. Wright scored 1:52 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Elmira. Zac Coulter provided the assist.

Elmira's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Sugar Kings finished with 44 penalty minutes.

Elmira also got points from Adam Brubacher, who also registered one goal and one assist and Cash Seraphim, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Elmira also got a goal from Eric Palazzolo as well. Other players who recorded assists for Elmira were Mac Clutsam, who had two and Ethan Skinner, Mitch Klie, and Klayton Hoelscher, who contributed one each.

Stratford was helped by Zach Van Louwe, who finished with one goal and one assist. Van Louwe scored 19:26 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Jared Nash picked up the assist. Stratford additionally got points from Jake Pleon, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Stratford received assists from Hayden Broomhead, who had one.

Elmira's Jonathan Reinhart stopped 21 shots out of the 23 that he faced. The Sugar Kings registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Nicholas Caldwell rejected 18 shots on goal for the Cullitons. Stratford incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
